Charlotte dental implants are all the rage in the Queen City. More and more residents are opting for dental implants as a tooth replacement option instead of traditional cosmetic dentistry services like partials or dentures. Patients love dental implants because they provide a secure, permanent and durable tooth replacement solution.

What are Dental Implants?
Adental implant is a device made of titanium that mimics the root of a tooth. Dental implants are screwed into existing jaw bone and overtime they fuse into the jawbone via a process known as "osseointegration." Unlike other cosmetic dentistry services that are removable or anchor to neighboring teeth, patients never have to worry about dental implants shifting as they chew or making awkward noises that are a dead giveaway for false teeth. Additionally, since dental implants fuse into the bone, patients never have to worry about oral health issues such as bone loss and decay.

How are Dental Implants Installed?
Dental implants are installed directly in the dentist office under local anesthesia or sedation. The entire dental implant procedure occurs in two phases. During the initial phase, the dentist makes an incision in your gums to expose the underlying bone. He then uses a special implant drill to create a space for the dental implant. The dental implant is then screwed into place and the gums are stitched over the implant. The dental implant is then allowed to fuse with the jawbone over the next few months.

After a few months have passed and the dental implant osseointegrates with the jawbone, you must make a return visit to the dentist office to complete the final phase of the dental implant procedure. During this phase, the dentist makes an incision in the gums a second time to expose the dental implant. He then makes an impression of the implant to fabricate a crown fitting. The crown fitting mimics the look, feel and function of your natural teeth. Once the crown is fabricated, the dentist attaches the crown fitting on top of the dental implant to complete the procedure.
