- Dr. Pinnix or Dr. Betancourt can examine your smile during a comprehensive exam to determine whether you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. In general, patients should be over 16 and not be suffering from tooth decay or gum disease.
- If our experienced dentists determine that your tooth discoloration is too severe for whitening treatments, alternative options like porcelain veneers may be recommended, which can be performed at our practice as well.

In-Office
We use Philips Zoom! WhiteSpeed® for in-office whitening treatments, which is one of the most trusted whitening brands in the dentistry field. Philips products are known for providing amazing results while minimizing sensitivity. The treatment follows several simple steps:
Your dentist will determine the appropriate level of hydrogen peroxide in your bleaching gel. This is the whitening agent that will reach deep within your teeth to break up stains.
Once your gums are protected, you will relax in our comfortable leather massage chair. The whitening gel will then be carefully applied to your teeth while you watch TV or listen to music.
Next, a blue LED light will be shined on your teeth to activate the hydrogen peroxide, enhancing its whitening power. The harmless light can be adjusted to low, medium, or high for further whitening customization.
In-office whitening is comfortable and provides instantaneous results. Once your treatment is complete, typically in under an hour, you are free to return to work or other activities.
Take-Home Treatment
- Philips Zoom! DayWhite® is our take-home teeth whitening option. This treatment is often preferred by patients with especially sensitive teeth. DayWhite® gradually whitens your teeth over several treatments that you administer during your free time.
- At-home treatment is safe because our dentists carefully regulate the level of hydrogen peroxide in the take-home whitening gel so that it can be safely used multiple times a week.
- You will first come into our office, serving the Charlotte, Ballantyne, and Gastonia, NC, areas, so that we can take precise digital impressions of your teeth. Your customized whitening trays will be created from these impressions.
- At home, simply apply a thin line of gel in your trays, then slide them over your teeth. Most patients whiten at home for 15-30 minutes at a time while watching television, cleaning, or doing other activities.
- Once your treatment is complete, rinse your teeth and go about your day. Most patients whiten several times a week for a few weeks at a time until they have achieved their aesthetic goals.
